UGE document checklist: avoid the ten-day correction request
The definitive checklist for the CGU: avoid the 10-day correction requirement and ensure approval of your teleworking residence the first time.

Nearly 40% of digital nomad residency applications submitted to the UGE receive a 'Request for Correction'.When this occurs, the Administration grants you a peremptory period of only 10 business days to correct the error or provide missing papers; If you do not respond in time, your request is automatically declared withdrawn. We present the master checklist to pass the first time.
What is the CGU 10-Day Requirement?
In accordance with article 68 of Law 39/2015 of the Common Administrative Procedure, if the application does not meet the required requirements, the interested party will be required to, within a period of ten business days, correct the lack or accompany the mandatory documents.
The great danger of this deadline is that ten business days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) are insufficient to process criminal records abroad, obtain apostilles in Washington D.C.or issue new notarial deeds. Therefore, the file must be presented perfect from minute zero.
The 5 Fatal Errors That Cause Requirements
- Incomplete Company LetterOmit the express mention that the company 'expressly authorizes the employee to telework from Spanish territory' or do not detail the exact remuneration.
- Unofficial TranslationsSubmit simple translations in English or those carried out by non-approved agencies instead of sworn translators registered with the MAEC.
- Insufficient seniorityFailure to demonstrate that the company has been in real operation for at least one year or that the applicant has been hired for at least three months.
- Lack of Apostille on the Criminal CertificatePresenting state records instead of federal ones (FBI in the USA) or not apostilling the document by the competent authority.
- Medical Insurance with CopaymentsPolicies that contain non-approved deductibles or medical exclusions.

Presenting an explanatory brief (legal Cover Letter) written by a registered lawyer where each article of Law 14/2013 is cited speeds up the review and favorably predisposes the evaluator.
The 5 Most Frequent Reasons for Requiring the UGE and How to Avoid Them
| Common Application Error | Why did you require the UGE? | Preventive Document Solution | Impact on Times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple non-sworn translation | Signature and seal of MAEC Sworn Translator missing | Hire only translators accredited by MAEC | +15 days late |
| Absent or state level apostille | Foreign certificates without The Hague Apostille | Always apostille at the federal/chancellary level | Critical File Risk |
| Contract duration <3 months | Art. 68 Law 14/2013 requires prior relationship | Attach invoices or previous contracts that total 90 days | Mandatory correction |
| Insurance with copays or deductibles | Foreign policy or with co-payments per consultation | Hire a 100% Spanish policy without co-payment | +10 days of processing |
| Lack of official bank certificate | Screenshots or excerpts without letterhead | Provide signed and stamped formal extract | Denial risk |
Key Practical Tips
What the team recommends before you file anything:
- The days in the UGE requirements are business days. They do not count Saturdays, Sundays or national holidays or those of the Community of Madrid.
- If you receive a complex request, your lawyer can submit a document requesting an extension of the deadline for another 5 business days in accordance with article 32 of Law 39/2015 before the original deadline expires.
