The BLS OTP code doesn't arrive (SMS or email): what to do

What to do if you do not receive the OTP verification code by SMS or email when booking your appointment at BLS Spain: real technical solutions.

You have finally found a free slot in the BLS calendar, you select the date, enter your details and the screen tells you: 'An OTP verification code has been sent to your phone/email.You have 120 seconds to enter it.'The clock is ticking, the SMS does not arrive, time expires and the turn disappears. This failure is one of the most reported problems in traveler forums.

Why does BLS OTP Code Delivery Fail?

The BLS One-Time Password (OTP) system was implemented as an anti-fraud barrier to verify that behind each reservation there is a real person with a telephone number and an operational email.

However, the SMS gateway infrastructure used by BLS contracts with low-cost international providers that suffer severe bottlenecks when traffic becomes saturated. In mobile operators in Latin America (such as Claro, Tigo, Movistar or Telcel), international SMS are usually retained in anti-spam filters of local operators or accumulate delays of 10 to 30 minutes, becoming unusable.

Strategies to Ensure Code Reception

  1. Use Corporate or Top Reputable Email ProvidersFree emails with regional servers usually send BLS emails to the spam folder or block them at the server level.Preferably use direct Gmail accounts with available storage space.
  2. Check the Promotions and Spam FolderIn Gmail and Outlook, emails from noreply@blsspainvisa.com are usually automatically filtered into the 'Promotions' or 'Notifications' secondary tabs.
  3. International Telephone PrefixesMake sure to carefully select the country code in the drop-down menu (+57 for Colombia, +52 for Mexico, +51 for Peru, +1 for USA) and do not duplicate the leading zero or add additional symbols in the mobile number field.

What to do if the session is blocked after several attempts?

If you request code resend more than three consecutive times, the BLS system disables your email and phone number for a two-hour cool-down period with the message 'Maximum OTP attempts reached'.

To avoid this, wait at least a full 90 seconds before pressing 'Resend Code' and check that your mobile device has full coverage and is not in 'Do Not Disturb' mode or with unknown number blocking activated.

Key Practical Tips

What the team recommends before you file anything:

  • Preemptively add the domain @blsinternational.com and @blshelpline.com to your email client's safe senders list before attempting to schedule.
  • If the portal offers the option to receive the code via WhatsApp, choose it. WhatsApp message delivery rates are significantly higher than conventional cross-border SMS.

Required Documentation Checklist

  1. Verified Gmail account with free storage space.
  2. Mobile line with optimal signal and active roaming/international SMS reception.
  3. Safe senders filter configured on email.
  4. Spam and Promotions tab open in an adjacent window to refresh instantly.
  5. Temporary deactivation of telephone spam blocking applications (Truecaller or similar).
