Domesa & BLS Colombia: What to Do if Your Passport is Delayed or Trapped
How the logistics loop between the Consulate, BLS, and the courier works, how to fix bad addresses, and how to recover it urgently.

You checked the official consular portal and your visa is marked as approved. Yet days turn into weeks, the courier tracking number shows no movement, or states the address was not found. Your flight to Madrid or Barcelona is approaching fast and your passport is missing.
This scenario happens regularly across reviews and forum posts from applicants in Bogotá and other Colombian cities. The logistics relay between the Consulate General of Spain, the external intake center at BLS, and the domestic courier company Domesa creates specific bottlenecks that require immediate action.
The document journey: from Consulate to intake desk and courier warehouse
Once the Consulate affixes the visa sticker, the passport does not immediately reach the courier van. First it travels in official sealed diplomatic bags to the BLS center on Carrera 20B #77-05. Intake staff must scan the barcode and register the batch in their dispatch system.
When the status says 'Resuelto', it usually takes two to four working days for BLS to upload the courier tracking number. Checking the tracking code prior to that scan will return an invalid tracking number error, causing unnecessary panic.
Why couriers report failed delivery attempts and address errors
Urban addresses in Colombia can be complex, involving streets, carreras, diagonals, building names, and apartment numbers. If an intake clerk mistyped a single digit or truncated apartment numbers on the shipping label, the delivery driver will flag a failed delivery attempt.
Domesa generally attempts delivery twice. If nobody is available with a national identification card to sign the receipt, the parcel returns to the central sorting facility in Bogotá, adding significant delays.
Rescue protocol: what to do if your flight is within five days
If your flight date is near and the courier tracker remains stagnant, you should not wait. You can request direct in-person pickup at BLS Bogotá by presenting your purchased flight tickets and showing proof of urgent travel.
Visit the BLS office during passport collection hours (15:00 to 16:00 on business days) with your original intake receipt, national ID, and printed flight confirmation. In documented emergencies, center supervisors can intercept the batch and release the passport directly.
- Confirm consular decision firstMake sure the official sutramiteconsular website indicates 'Resuelto' before expecting dispatch.
- Locate your tracking receipt numberThe tracking reference is printed on the courier fee slip given to you on submission day.
- Safeguard your original intake slipWithout this original physical receipt, neither you nor an authorized representative can claim documents.
- Keep flight itinerary printed for urgent claimsShowing an imminent departure is the only grounds for supervisors to intercept an outbound package.
